Tate McRae, born Tate Rosner McRae on July 1, 2003, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and dancer. She gained prominence as the first Canadian finalist on the American reality television series So You Think You Can Dance in 2016. Early Life and Family
Tate was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, to Tanja Rosner, a dance instructor of German descent, and Todd McRae, a lawyer of Scottish descent. At the age of four, Tate moved with her family to Oman due to her father’s work, where she lived for three years. Her mother played a significant role in nurturing her interest in dance, and Tate began recreational dance training at the age of six.
Dance Career
Tate’s dance career took off when she won the Mini Best Female Dancer award at the 2013 Dance Awards in New York City. She continued to excel in various dance competitions and became a brand ambassador for Capezio. Tate also voiced a character in the Lalaloopsy franchise and won a two-week scholarship at the Berlin State Ballet company in 2015.
Music Career
In 2017, Tate released her debut song, “One Day,” which went viral on YouTube and caught the attention of RCA Records. She released her debut EP, All the Things I Never Said, in 2020, followed by Too Young to Be Sad in 2021. Her single “You Broke Me First” from the latter EP became a major hit, peaking within the top ten of the Canadian Hot 100 and at number 17 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Tate’s debut studio album, I Used to Think I Could Fly, was released in 2022, and her 2023 single “Greedy” achieved worldwide commercial success.
Personal Life
Tate is known for her close relationship with her family, especially her mother. She has an older brother, Tucker McRae, who is a talented ice hockey player. Tate has been romantically linked to Australian rapper The Kid Laroi since early 2024.
